Used Car Conway, SCToday’s vehicles last longer than ever, so you can find a used car in excellent condition for a low price. After you make your purchase, you’ll save money on car insurance, taxes, and registration. A used car also depreciates slower, retaining more of its value over the years. The market is filled with used vehicles, so take your time and do thorough research before making your decision. Consider these important factors when shopping for a used car.

An Exterior in Good Condition

When you find a vehicle you like, inspect the outside and inside carefully. Look for dents, scratches, rust, mismatched paint, and corrosion. A large dent or an area with mismatched paint could mean the car was in a serious accident. If the car’s body panels don’t line up evenly, the previous owner might not have repaired it properly.

Also open and close the doors, hood, and trunk, make sure the windows work, turn on the headlights, sit in all the seats to make sure they’re roomy and comfortable, and make sure devices such as touch screens still work. Look for small cracks in the windshield or windows that might worsen over time, and check the tires for low tire pressure and uneven or excessive wear.

A Comfortable, Undamaged Interior

Check the interior and the trunk or cargo area for stained upholstery, bad smells, and wear. If you notice lots of stains and unpleasant odors, the vehicle might have water damage. Excess moisture can cause mechanical problems, encourage mold growth, and make allergy or asthma symptoms worse for drivers and passengers. Look beneath the seats and inspect the carpet and floor mats for stains and debris to make sure you don’t miss anything.

Good Mileage and Maintenance Records

Choosing a used car without a lot of miles on it will let you enjoy it longer without needing to replace worn parts or get expensive repairs. However, you’ll have to pay more for a vehicle with lower mileage. A well-maintained car with more miles could be a better deal. If a car, truck, or SUV has low mileage because it spent years sitting in the previous owner’s driveway or garage, its plastic or rubber parts could have deteriorated and become brittle. You’ll end up having to spend more on maintenance than you would on a comparable car with more miles.

To make sure you get a vehicle in good condition, consider a Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. These cars are under six years old and have fewer than 80,000 miles, and they undergo a 172-point inspection. They also come with a limited warranty that lasts 12 months or 12,000 miles and a seven-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
