Conway, SC, is a stunning and historic city that is home to Conway Ford and many other fascinating historical attractions. There are many historical sites in and around Conway that you can explore, whether you’re a history enthusiast or just looking for a fun day trip.

1. Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown

On the Sampit River and close to the Front Street boardwalk at 1003 Front St. is the historic Kaminski House, which is about 30 minutes from Conway. One of the oldest buildings in the vicinity, it was constructed in 1734. The home has undergone a stunning restoration and has been transformed into a museum that chronicles the history of the Kaminski family and the neighborhood.
At 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m., there are guided tours available, and the museum store is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Discover Georgetown’s history and culture while living there, from the 18th century through the two Great Wars. Your time there will be worthwhile because the guide is knowledgeable about the house and its history.

2. Atalaya Castle in Georgetown

About 45 minutes from Conway, you’ll find the historic Atalaya Castle in Huntington Beach State Park. Built in the 1930s by Archer and Anna Huntington, this castle is accessible from Atalaya Road. It is now a museum that chronicles the family’s history as well as the history of the neighborhood. Visit the castle’s slave, cook, and Huntington quarters, as well as the kitchen and prep area.
The Anne Huntington Studio, which features both an outdoor and an indoor studio depending on the weather, is the highlight of the castle. Take the audio tour as well, which is succinct and gives you a general overview of the castle’s history without being overly informational. Visitors can set up camp nearby and take advantage of the neighboring beach.

3. LW Paul Living History Farm

The early 1900s through the 1950s are recreated at the LW Paul Living History Farm, a living history farm. Depending on the season, visitors can take part in activities like harvesting, milking a cow, and grinding corn. The farm includes a sawmill, blacksmith, smokehouse, tools from the era, a barn, a chapel, and other items that would have been found on a working farm during that time period.
Produce from the farm is available at the visitor center, along with handmade toys. A hand pump is located right outside the kitchen door, and visitors can use it to pump water while also viewing the housewife preparing the daily lunch. Although admission to the attraction is free, donations are always appreciated. The 2022 Ford Explorer XLT’s spacious and comfortable interior makes it perfect for long road trips and family outings.
