Located just a few miles from Myrtle Beach on the eastern tip of the state, the city of Conway, SC, is surrounded by excellent destinations you can visit with your friends or family during the weekend. Whether you are into museums, beaches, nature reserves, or historical places, these are some great day trips you can go on. Prepare some snacks, don’t forget your camera, and check out these fantastic and nearby destinations.

1. Myrtle Beach

Perhaps the easiest and most popular day trip for Conway residents, the city of Myrtle Beach is a perfect spot to get away from the urban routine and enjoy some relaxation by the beach. Although it has a small population of under 30,000, Myrtle Beach is considered one of the major tourist destinations in South Carolina and beyond, attracting over 20 million visitors each year from all over the country.

Getting from the Conway city center to downtown Myrtle Beach takes between 20 minutes and half an hour by car, driving along route US-501. Once in town, you can enjoy miles of uninterrupted beaches, as well as almost 2,000 restaurants and over 80 different golf courses. Some spots you should not miss include the SkyWheel, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, and Promenade, The Funplex, Family Kingdom Amusement Park, and Myrtle Beach State Park.

2. Charleston

Located a little under 100 miles south of downtown Conway, the city of Charleston is an excellent day trip destination for visitors looking for an extensive gastronomic scene, interesting museums, and historical monuments. Getting here takes about two hours by car, driving along routes US-17 and US-701. As the largest city in South Carolina, Charleston is a major destination among visitors from all over the region and is known for its strong tourism industry.

Once you make your way to the city center, one of the best ways to start exploring is by going for a walk around the French Quarter, where you can find major historic points, including the Old Slave Mart Museum, the Old Exchange, and Provost Dungeon, the Gibbes Museum of Art, and the Historic Charleston City Market. Some other spots you should not miss while in Charleston include Fort Sumter National Monument, White Point Garden, and Joe Riley Waterfront Park.

3. Georgetown

With a charming historic district and a beautiful harbor, the city of Georgetown is another popular day trip destination among residents of Conway and other towns in the region. Considered the third oldest city in the state of South Carolina, Georgetown was once an important center for rice production, which you can learn more about at the Rice Museum. Other spots you should check out include the South Carolina Maritime Museum and Lafayette Park.
