Engine and Power

All models of the 2021 Ford Ranger come with the same 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 310 pound-feet of torque and 270 horsepower. It pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission that can be configured for either front-wheel or four-wheel drive. The Canyon features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as standard, which puts out 191 pound-feet of torque and 200 horsepower. You can get more powerful engine options, including a V-6 and a diesel option, for an additional cost.

Towing and Payload Capacities

The 2021 Ranger beats out the 2021 Canyon in payload capacity, thanks to its best-in-class towing rating of 2,128 pounds when properly equipped. Both trucks can tow heavy loads, although each requires the optional towing package to reach the highest numbers. The Canyon can tow up to 7,700 pounds with the optional package and diesel engine, while the Ranger comes in at a max towing capacity of 7,500 pounds.

Off-road Capabilities

The Ranger is available with the new Tremor Off-Road package, which makes this truck more capable for off-roading. It bundles off-road-specific Fox shocks, side steps, underbody protection, additional recovery hooks, and 32-inch all-terrain tires. The package also comes with a revised suspension and nearly an additional inch of ground clearance. Although both pickups have plenty to offer, the 2021 Ford Ranger is the top choice thanks to its powerful base engine, best-in-class payload capacity, and off-roading abilities.
