2021 Ford Edge vs. 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Overview

If you're shopping for a midsize SUV, the 2021 Ford Edge and 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee may be on your list. Each model has a number of appealing features, but it's helpful to know how they differ.

Cabin Features and Size

Both the 2021 Ford Edge and 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee are midsize SUVs with seating for five. However, the Edge beats out the Grand Cherokee in passenger volume, offering an additional eight cubic feet of space. It also has more front-row shoulder room, legroom, and headroom, and second-row hip room and headroom for a more comfortable ride. Both models come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, while the Edge boasts a 12-inch infotainment screen. The Grand Cherokee doesn't offer a larger screen than 8 inches.

Safety Equipment

Another appealing aspect of the 2021 Edge is its impressive list of safety equipment. Every model includes the Ford Co-Pilot360 package, which bundles forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Only blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert come standard on the Grand Cherokee.

Power Beneath the Hood

The standard engine on the Edge is a powerful turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 250 horsepower. An optional turbocharged V-6 is available on the ST model, which produces 335 horsepower. Both engines are efficient, returning better numbers than the Grand Cherokee, which comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 295 horsepower. You can also choose from three other engine options in the lineup.
